Museum Victoria is asking the public to help us add useful alternative text to collection images. We have developed a web application which lets anybody participate. The instructions are simple:
1. Pick an image – We’ll show you a randomly-selected photo, or you can use the tags to find images you’re interested in.
2. Look carefully – What does the image convey? Read the information from our collection records if you need hints.
3. Describe it – Write a few words to describe what’s in the image. Submit and you’re done!
We have a login feature for those who’d like to climb the leaderboard.
This lightning talk will present this new approach to making our collections even more useful.
