Millennial “Cabinets”? Pinterest as New Collecting Practice

Lightning Talk
Diana Marsh, USA

This lightening talk will investigate Pinterest pages as contemporary sites of collecting for the mass public; new spaces of selecting, collecting, categorizing, curating and sharing digital objects in the form of images and videos. Further, following literature on histories of collecting practices, the talk will argue that Pinterest fits squarely within European collecting traditions, and perhaps signals a turn back to collecting in the Renaissance, when collections took the form of idiosyncratic “cabinets” in the private homes and studios of both amateurs and scholars.
