Dr. Luigina Ciolfi is Reader in Communication at C3RI, the Cultural Communication and Computing Research Institute, Sheffield Hallam University (UK). She is a member of the Communication and Computing Research Centre and affiliated to the Department of Computing.
Luigina is a human-computer interaction and interaction design scholar with interests in design for cultural heritage, public spaces and work settings. Her work is dedicated to the design and deployment of interactive installations in the physical world with a concern for people and their activities. She holds a Laurea in Communication Sciences from the University of Siena (Italy) specialising in Human-Machine Interaction, and a PhD in Interaction Design from the University of Limerick (Ireland).
Luigina participated in national and international research projects on these topics, including SHAPE, HIPS , Shared Worlds, Reminisce and NomadS. She is currently working on the EU meSch project, aiming to designing an open toolkti to empower cultural heritage professional to create tangible interactive exhibits in museums and exhibitions.
She has published extensively in the areas of human-computer interaction and interaction design, as well as having organised a number of international workshops on the topic of museum technologies, ubiquitous computing and mobile work.
Luigina serves as Associate Editor and Book Review Editor of the CSCW Journal, and is the programme committee of several international conferences including CHI, DIS, TEI, CSCW, ECSCW and COOP. She is a member of ACM SIGCHI.
