Bronwen Colquhoun is a PhD candidate at the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies at Newcastle University. Her research analyses the extent to which image-sharing website Flickr The Commons supports community engagement and the effect this has not only on the development and understanding of the featured photographic collections, but also on the wider practices of the participating cultural institutions. Bronwen also has an interest in how photographic collections are shared and re-appropriated amongst users within different online environments, and the new meanings and narratives that are generated for these photographs as a result. Prior to her PhD studies, Bronwen completed an MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies at Newcastle University and holds a BA in Contemporary Photographic Practice from Northumbria University.
