User Experience, Visitor Experience: Thinking Holistically for Museum Mobile DesignLightning Talk
Tanya Treptow, USA
As more museums embark on ‘creating experiences’ in both digital and physical space, it’s important to address a disconnect in how we talk about audiences for these experiences. Those who design gallery content typically focus on the visitor’s experience. In contrast, those who design digital interfaces more frequently refer to the user’s experience.
In this lighting talk, I’ll examine key differences in thinking about the user experience versus the visitor experience, drawing on examples from my background in exhibit design and usability testing of digital interfaces. I’ll also pinpoint methods for assessing the ‘museum experience’ in a more holistic way. The key question that this talk will address is: What practical measures can a museum team take while developing digital content to ensure that it meets the needs of both ‘users’ and ‘visitors’?
